Petroleum Hydrocarbon Utilization by Some Molecularly Identified Filamentous Marine Fungi Isolated from a Polluted Area in the Mediterranean Sea

چکیده
HREE DIFFERENT newly isolated marine fungi were subjected ........to 18S rRNA gene partial sequence analysis. The resulting sequences showed that the isolates belong to Fusarium solani, Trichoderma viride and Aspergillus niger. The isolates have the ability to utilize some petroleum hydrocarbons such as hexane, motor oil and diesel oil. The tested fungi could grow up to 7 days, especially on medium supported with diesel oil. Although all of the tested fungi have the ability to utilize the increased concentrations of diesel oil, Fusarium solani EH has the highest ability, growing at a concentration of 4 ml/l. Static and shaking incubation conditions of Fusarium solani EH with 7.2 mg/100ml diesel oil as a sole carbon source, showed significant decrease in the hydrocarbon concentration (90.28% and 93.05%, respectively) within 7 days. Results of this study may provide a help in petroleum hydrocarbon spill clean-up.

Screening and identification of biosurfactant producing marine bacteria from the Caspian Sea
Marine microorganisms have unique physiological properties and novel metabolites such as biosurfactant to live in extreme habitats (e.g. oil polluted environment). The aim of this study was to characterize some biosurfactant-producing bacteria collected from sediment and seawater samples from the Caspian Sea. These bacteria were isolated using enrichment method in ONR7a medium with crude oil as...
متن کاملThe occurrence of Achlya recurva (Saprolegniales, Oomycetes) in hydrocarbon-polluted soil from Argentina.
Saprolegniaceae are ubiquitous filamentous water molds. They occur as saprotrophs or parasitic on aquatic and terrestial plants and on aquatic animals, and a number of interesting fungi belonging to the Saprolegniaceae have been isolated from the soil. In the course of an investigation of the water molds in Argentina, an unusual species of Achlya was isolated once from soil collections. Brassic...
متن کاملCharacterization of naphthalene-degrading bacteria isolated from the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea as potential agents for naphthalene removal from polluted environments
Over fifty bacterial strains were isolated from seawater samples in the presence of naphthalene as a sole source of carbon and energy. Among them, three isolates with higher growth rate and naphthalene degradation ability were selected for further studies. Biochemical and molecular analysis revealed that two Persian Gulf isolates, strain PG-10 and strain PG-48 belonged to the group of hydrocarb...
متن کاملRemoval of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPHs) from Oil-Polluted Soil in Iran
Phytoremediation is an emerging environmental-friendly technology that can be a promising solution to remediate oil-polluted soils. The impact of high amount of hydrocarbons on growth characteristics of burningbushand common flax was evaluated in this survey. The influence of organic fertilizers was also assessed on growth of plant species in oil...
متن کاملIsolation of anthracene resistant positive gram bacteria from Imam Khomeini Port oil polluted sediments
Today's most of microorganisms are used for purification of hazard waste such as municipal and industrial waste water and oil contaminants. In this study 2 bacterial species were isolated and purified in hydrocarbon (anthracene) containing media from oil polluted sediment of Imam Khomeini port. Bacillus pasteurii and Amphibacillus xylanus species were identified as indicator degrading bacteria ...
